Exercise and depression
According to Paula Manning, a specialist physiotherapist in mental health, research shows, ' the increased strength of evidence of the effects of at least two physical activity sessions per week on depression as a comorbidity to other non-communicable diseases. Physical activity can be used as part of a restoration to a less depressed state and as mental health self-care in people with cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and respiratory disease'.
Physiotherapists are the ideal professionals to provide exercise programmes which meet the unique needs of every individual.
