Exercises for ‘Flat’ feet

Having ‘flat’ feet i.e. a reduced arch under the inside of the foot due to over-pronated sub-talar joints, can cause pain, muscle tightness and joint stiffness. Podiatrists can provide orthotic devices (on-soles) which help correct the foot position to optimise it’s function and reduce pain. Physiotherapist and podiatrists find the following exercises help increase the strength of the foot muscles and reduce the tension in the calf muscles and plantar fascia (the sheath enclosing the muscles under the ball of the foot).
