Subacromial shoulder pain

Subacromial shoulder pain is often felt at the top and outside of the shoulder. It’s aggravated by overhead movements and can be associated with night pain. The subacromial space contains the rotator cuff tendons and the subacromial bursa (a fluid filled sac that helps reduce friction between the tendons and bony surfaces). Pain in the subacromial space is usually due to rotator cuff tendinopathy. This is often referred to as ‘shoulder impingement’.

Here’s some useful information about the management of shoulder impingement pain from the British Elbow and Shoulder Society.
